Mystical visions are a universal part of human life. The Jewish record of these experiences begins in Biblical literature, and continues through the centuries in ecstatic poetry and teachings of spiritual masters. Kabbala ("the receiving") , the Jewish mystical tradition, describes a reality far beyond everyday perception: the cosmos is the interaction of ten God-energies (Sefirot) through four states of being ("worlds"), culminating in Atzilut, the realm of pure spirit. Flowing through all is the dynamic union of Higher Source ("male") and Indwelling Presence / Shekhinah ("female"), which together produce consciousness and soul. The goal of Kabbala is the transformation of our broken reality into one of pure unified joy.
From Ashkenazic cantorial chant to Yemenite communal refrains, texts about ecstatic experience have always been sung in the widely-dispersed Jewish communities of the pre-Western world. Atzilut performs both traditional and original music for the journey.
