Born in Berlin, Rafa El Tachuela begain teaching himself flamenco guitar at the age of thirteen. Only two years later he made his first public appearances including, among others, his debut at the traditional "Quartier Latin" in Berlin. His passion for flamenco led him to found the group Yamada, and for eight years he wrote all of their compositions. Parallel to that he studied guitar, composition and analysis at the "Hochschule der Kunste" (University of the Artst) in Berlin with H.J. Kaps among others.
One of the focal points of his compositions and guitar work is the exploration of the roots and origins of flamenco and their musical connections with the ancient and complex traditional Arabian culture.
