Arthur Rubenstein (1887-1982) – Polish-American Classical Pianist Profile and a 1975 Orchestral Performance (From Dec 12, 2013 entry at www.Facebook.com/AudioSparx) Today we celebrate the famous Polish-American classical pianist Arthur Rubenstein, who died in December 1982, at age 95, in his sleep in Geneva. Considered the greatest interpreter of Chopin of all times, the NY Times dubbed him “one of the greatest pianists of the 20th Century.” What a stunning performer, revered the world over… Rubenstein was one of 7 children, and at age 2 he had developed perfect pitch; by age 4 he was considered a child prodigy -- and only gave up playing on stage at age 89. I love what he said about his closest rival, Vladimir Horowitz, “'Horowitz is the better pianist, but I am the better musician.' Touché! II Larghetto, conducted by the young, handsome, and acclaimed André Previn (b. 1929). Enjoy!!! |
